Is there a library freshmen orientation? Yes. There are two parts:

  • Part I: Attend the library freshmen orientation (aka LibQuest) as part of your campus-wide freshmen orientation. Please register for the latter upon matriculation.
  • Part II: Complete LIB001 - Library Research Skills on your eLearn. Please stay tuned for an email from SMU Libraries about LIB001.

Is the library freshmen orientation compulsory? It is highly recommended for all freshmen in the SMU Holistic Student Development Framework.

We strongly encourage all freshmen to participate in both Parts of the library freshmen orientation to gain a better understanding of library services and resources and acquire essential academic and research skills for a robust start of learning journey at SMU.
