Failing to respond to Duo Push notifications or approve authentication requests in the Duo Mobile app may result in your account being temporarily locked.

All WRDS services require Duo authentication each time you log in.

Whenever you access WRDS services, including the WRDS website, SAS, RStudio, JupyterHub, PostgreSQL, SSH, API or other programming tools, be sure to check for Duo Push notifications and approve the authentication request promptly.

If you are unable to log in and do not receive a Duo Push notification, please check the following:

  1. Ensure your phone is unlocked, Airplane Mode is turned off, and any VPN connection is disabled.
  2. If you do not receive a Duo Push notification, open the Duo Mobile app and check for pending authentication requests. Notifications may take a minute or two to appear.
  3. Log in to the WRDS website first, then attempt to access the WRDS service or platform you need. If necessary, repeat Step 2.
  4. If you are using code or scripts, first authenticate through the WRDS website, then run your code while remaining on the same network/IP address. Do not connect to a VPN or switch networks between authenticating on the WRDS website and running your code.
  5. Avoid running automated scripts that attempt to log in to WRDS while you are away from your computer or phone. If authentication requests are not approved, the script may repeatedly attempt to log in and cause your account to be locked.

Important: If you let the login prompt timeout too many times in a row, your account may be automatically locked. If you encounter an error message indicating that your account as been locked for too many timeouts or authorization retries, please contact WRDS Support to request an account unlock.
