Bloomberg is now offering FREE access to BMC, Bloomberg’s certification program, via the web, in lieu of a terminal connection. And this program is in place until the end of Dec 2020.

Students with existing BMC accounts can log-in for free to continue working on their certification on the BMC portal:

Students without current BMC credentials can create these on the portal:, using your SMU email address.  In both instances, a certificate of achievement will be issued to students upon successful completion of the program, just as is done with the terminal version.

Refer to the following instructions to access BMC e-learn course from the terminals.

1. Book the terminals and use the time to set up your individual Bloomberg account and register for BMC course.

Remember to bring your own headphones or earphones to watch and listen to the e-learning videos.

2. Sign up for an individual Bloomberg account with your SMU email address. You may need to enter your mobile number to receive a passcode.

3. Login with your individual Bloomberg account and register for the Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) course.

How long will it take? BMC is an 8-hour self-paced course.

Bloomberg allows up to 1 year to complete the course to earn a certificate, however, you are encouraged to complete it before your graduation as only current SMU students are allowed to use the Bloomberg terminals in the Investment Studio.

A Certificate of Completion will be created for students once you complete the Core Concepts module. The other two modules, Getting started  and Portfolio Management are add-ons modules. A Certificate of Completion will not be created if a student completes only Getting Started on the Terminal or Portfolio Management.

Moreover, only students who have enrolled for BMC post Aug 13, 2019 will have access to the upgraded version of the BMC. Students who have enrolled before that day will have to continue following the earlier completion modules. They will not have access to the new Portfolio Management module. If the students wish to learn it/access it, please sign up again.
